Grey Blonde Life : How to brighten your blonde using White Hot
White Hot is a range first and foremost for white and grey hair. While we’re well and truly waving the silver flag, that doesn’t mean we’re not here with open arms for other hair colours that also need a bit of a White Hot touch.
Grey blondes in particular may reach for our products to brighten, boost, hydrate and combat brassy or yellowy tones in their hair. Also, if you're leaning more into a grey blonde or ash blonde look as you transition to the dye-free life, we can help you feel more at ease with your new colour. So, whether you're totally blonde or grey blonde...welcome!
Today, I thought I would share a few tips and recommendations for grey blondes that might be helpful for you or for a friend.
No yellow
Brilliant Shampoo is a great brightener for blondes or grey blondes as a soft violet cleanse once or twice a week. We suggest waiting for 2 weeks after bleaching before use though, as hair is more porous after dyeing and you may not get the desired effects straight away. Also, your hair will need some added hydration straight after bleaching, so Glorious Shampoo and Luminous Conditioner is the perfect combo for a daily nourishment and moisture injection until you can introduce Brilliant Shampoo into your routine.
This tip is particularly good for those of you than are more on the ash blonde side of things. A cool-toned blonde can seamlessly blend silver strands, softening the grow-out process and lessening the harsh line that can appear when growing out your dye. Low maintenance looks are our favourite.
Loco for coco
I’ve mentioned coconut oil many times before, but in case you’re not in the loop yet, coconut oil is a fantastic natural stain remover, plus it is super hydrating. Great as an overnight mask on damp hair, just be sure to lay a towel on your pillow. Our Gloss Bar (solid shampoo bar) contains coconut oil, which is not only super hydrating, but kind to grey blonde too.
Heaps of hydration![]()
As those of you that have bleached your hair consistently, you'll know that it is extremely drying. Grey hair can sometimes feel more coarse and wiry too, so keeping up with hydration is key. Luminous Conditioner is our super rich, lustrous conditioner for everyday moisture and smoothing. Use with any of our shampoos for the perfect hydrating finish, leaving your grey blonde feeling silky soft.
Increase the Intense-ity
If your grey blonde is looking really brassy, once a week we suggest cleansing with Brilliant Shampoo, then following with a 3 minute miracle. Our Intense Lustre Mask. Deep conditioning, hydrating, brightness boosting and brassiness banishing.
Keep it covered
Quick tip! Remember that the sun's rays can cause grey blonde hair to feel yellowy and dry it out. Keep your hair covered and protected in the summer and maybe pop a few drops of Lifeshine Oil on for a burst of hydration under your hat.
Turn down the heat
You will have heard it before, but heated styling tools are one of the main reasons hair turns brassy. Silver, grey, grey blonde or blonde. If you’re finding that your hair has yellowy tones that just won’t budge, I suggest laying off the heat for a week or so and see the difference. Even if you style it once a week or even twice, it’ll help reduce the brassiness, dryness, frizz, breakage and heat damage.
So, in summary... the go-tos for grey blondes?
* Glorious Shampoo and Luminous Conditioner (a.k.a Shine Duo) as your regular cleanse, to detox and nourish.
* Brilliant Shampoo and/or Intense Lustre Mask (a.k.a Intense Brighten Duo) every few washes (but wait for 2 weeks after bleaching) to combat brassy tones.
