Our hair how to’s…. Side chignon

Welcome to the second blog in our ‘Hair how to’s’ series. Last time we looked at a half-up-half-down bun, which was a lovely casual look. Today, we’re going to show you how to do a side chignon, which we think is great for an evening look.

How to create Your Own Side Chignon

Use the video as a reference and follow the simple steps below to have a go. If you do, we’d love to see the end results - please feel free to post them either at the bottom of this blog or on our Facebook page - we love seeing what you all do with your hair and we know that other members of the community find it really inspirational.
  1. Take a section of your hair from the crown and backcomb - just the roots - it’s to give some light volume and structure. Add a bit of hairspray for hold - Jayne’s favourite is Elnett
  2. To get a little height at the crown, take a section from the crown, push it forward and then pin it horizontally
  3. To then cover those grips, take a section of your hair across them and pin it at the side
  4. Pull a couple of strands down from the side of the face to soften the look
  5. Gather the rest of the hair at the side and fasten it quite tightly with a hair band
  6. Take a section of the ponytail - maybe aim to have 3-4 sections in total, depending on the thickness of your hair - barrel it around your finger and pin. Repeat with each of the remaining sections. The aim is for the barrelled sections to work to cover the hairband, so spread them evenly around a circle. Tip: If you cross over your pins it makes it more secure
  7. If there are loose stray hairs, this doesn't matter, it helps gives a less rigid/formal look. Spray to hold
Don’t forget, please send us pictures of your end look. Sign up to our newsletter and get 10% off your next order.
