Article: Ditch the comparison
Ditch the comparison
In today’s world, we are encouraged to compare. Whether it is on social media or somewhere else, we are fed the lives and looks of others at all times. We all know that comparison ultimately is the thief of joy and that the grass almost always isn’t greener on the other side, but yet we still do it. In this instance, I’m talking about hair. While one thing I love about our White Hot community is the influx of messages and comments we receive from people sharing how much they love their hair, as it is, curls and colours and kinks and all, they aren’t all like this. We still get a chunk of people who haven’t used our products before, but are members of our social communities that say ‘I would love mine too if it was….’ or ‘mine’s an awful colour but I would like yours….’.
At the heart of ditching the dye is embracing and maybe even daring to outwardly celebrate your natural hair, just as it is. While yes, you love Sarah’s beautiful white curls or Julie’s silver pixie crop, that doesn’t take away from the beauty of your own hair. We are all unique and our natural hair colour is too. There isn’t one shade of grey, like a brunette box dye or a set dye formula. It looks different on everyone, is totally, uniquely you and that’s pretty special if you ask me. Your natural hair colour suits your skin tone and features and hair texture and although you may sometimes dream of a different shade of salt and pepper or white when you’re not loving your grey, your hair looks best on you. It’s important to use the right products and discover the right routine for you, so you love the hair you have, caring for it, nourishing it and celebrating it in all its glory.
Compliment others by all means, but don’t drag yourself down, compare negatively and criticise your appearance in the process. Embrace what you have and celebrate the differences between us, because…it’s more than likely that someone whose hair you’re admiring, is admiring yours too.
Today, look in the mirror and find 2 things you love about your hair. It might feel cringey, but it might also feel good.
